Cross Country

skiing

Châtel and the Abondance Valley offers visitors access to a substantial network of cross country ski trails winding besides river banks and through secluded tree lined paths stretching all the way from the top of Chatel at Pre La Joux, past la Chapelle d'Abondance all the way down to the town of Abondance at the far end of the valley.  To try out the routes you can use the free Intra communal bus service with runs throughout the day and will drop you off at the end of the road just a short walk from the chalet door.

Cross Country skiers can also explore the numerous small villages and hamlets which the ski trails run past, and if you are really keen try the routes going up the valley towards Chatel and Pre la Joux. Here you will find stretches which fully justify their ranking as a "Black" trail providing budding Olympians a real challenge for their fitness.

If you want to travel further a field telemark skiers will find huge areas of cross country trails are available across the Portes du Soleil area and where you will always be assured of a welcome at the many conveniently sited restaurants. Over the years most of the resort has been tested by various Club members and the chalet staff, who will be happy to provide advice if you plan to explore the farthest parts of the area.
