Climbing in and around Châtel and the Portes du Soleil

Chatel and the Portes du Soleil area offers climbers a vast array of challenges which will satisfy all standards of climber.

During the summer you will have little difficulty finding a local guide ready to help you try out rock climbing under proper supervision with full rope protection and safety equipment.

For a gentle introduction to rock climbing then try one of the three "Via Ferrata" graded climbs at Saix de Miolene. These range from a tough scramble stage through to a serious fingertip clinging climb with rope protection. Bookings via the local Tourist office 0450 732244 include safety gear and instruction in passable English.
