Châtel is ideally suited to the self-drive visitor. There is ample parking at the Club chalet and the local resorts. Our location at the entrance to Châtel provides easy access by car to the extensive facilities in Châtel and neighbouring village of La Chapelle D'Abondance which are at the heart of the Portes du Soleil area.

Châtel makes an ideal base for summer holidays exploring the extensive mountains ranging along the Swiss-French border, or taking a relaxing break on the shores of Lake Geneva. Châtel offers has more than enough to challenge and entertain everyone in the family.

Several times each winter, heavy snowfalls mean that access to Châtel and the Abondance valley is restricted to vehicles with snow chains. You have been warned. Conditions can change rapidly and it has been known for the road up from Thonon to be impassable any time from November to May.

In good conditions Châtel is about 90 minutes drive from Geneva Airport, and only 890 Km - 550 miles from Calais (10 hours).
