Châtel has an excellent snow record due to its location in the Northern French Alps. It is one of the first mountain ranges immediately south east of Lake Geneva. It benefits from good snow falls when moist air crossing the lake is forced to rise and cools rapidly when it hits the Mountains. Even so Châtel has invested in a network of mobile snow cannons to ensure good cover on the runs down to resort level early and late in the ski season. During summer 2004 additional snow cannons were installed along the main Super Chatel Slopes and snow board park area.
